On January 4, 20 intrepid travelers from Bucknell University began their odyssey to the island nation of Cuba. The volunteers included 16 students, a professor, a rabbi, and an administrator who were looking forward to learning about the culture and history of a country that has seen great transitions in the last 60 years. Sponsored by the Hillel group and a special fund to promote human tolerance, the service-learning group would work with Jewish communities in Havana and other cities during our one week expedition.
